Björk hat den dritten Track ihres zehnten Studioalbums veröffentlicht, das nächste Woche erscheint und das Nachfolgeralbum von 'Utopia' (2017) ist.

Jetzt folgte die dritte Single: "Ancestress"
"Ancesstress" ist einer von zwei Tracks auf Björks neuem Album, die sie ihrer verstorbenen Mutter widmet und ist direkt nach deren Beerdigung entstanden ist. Es ist ein Brief, in dem Björk Lebensgeschichte ihrer Mutter erzählt, wie sie selbst sie erlebt habt. Angefangen in der Kindheit, bis zu dem schmerzhaften Moment des Sterbens.Der Song ist ganze sieben Minuten lang und ein imposantes Musikstück mit Streichern, Glocken und Paukenschlägen. Das Musikvideo entstand mit Regisseur Andrew Thomas Huang und zeigt Björk und eine Gruppe Tänzer*innen, bei einer Art rituellen Beerdigungszeremonie in den Bergen:

on my new album , fossora , i wrote 2 songs to my mother . this one , ancestress , is written just after her wordly funeral and is probably a common musician´s reaction ,the impulse of making your version of the story , later .
this song is a letter to my mother , her story seen from my point of view
it is written in chronological order , the first verse is my childhood and so on
only recently did i discover that this song is probably somehow inspired by an icelandic song "grafskrift"which is somehow a very direct and patriarchial account of someones life
i probably wanted to approach this in a more feminine wayher biological and emotional story
not her professions , partners or dates of birth and death
i am very grateful to my son , sindri eldon , to arrange and sing vocals for the verses
as he has a delicious voice and was very close to her .
for 20 years i have not been able to attend funerals as something in them rubbed me the wrong way .
possibly a big part of it is after having lived a life of thousand concerts , i probably have too strong ideas on how a ritual should be ,
what kinda sound , musical structure , words and it took me all this time to discover that for me all funerals should be outside .
probably what was offending me most was how can one set off the spirit in such a claustrophobic environment as a church ?
when the soul sets off , it needs to be outside so there is room for how enormous it becomes when it merges with the elements

Die zweite Single: "ovule"
Auf Social Media schreibt Björk zum neuen Song:ovule for me is my definition of love
it is a meditation about us as lovers walking around this world
and i imagine 2 spheres or satellites following us around
one above us that represents ideal love
one below us representing the shadows of love
and we ourselves walk around in the third sphere of real love ,
where the everyday monday-morning meet-in-the-kitchen-love lives in
Die Leadsingle "atopos"
Auf Social Media schrieb die isländische Künstlerin, "atopos" sei eine guter Einstieg in das neue Album, "kinda like fossora's passport". Björks entschlossene Stimme, das Bassklarinetten-Sextett und die experimentellen Techno-Sounds von Kasimyn, Teil des indonesischen Experimentalduo Gabber Modus Operandi, wirken zunächst wie drei separate Teile, die willkürlich im selben Song stattfinden, fügen sich aber nach und nach doch ineinander. Das Musikvideo verstärkt die düstere, fast bedrohlich wirkende Atmosphäre: Es spielt in einer pilzartigen, apokalyptischen Unterwelt, Björk und die Musiker*innen sind galaktisch kostümiert und die ganze Szenerie erinnert bewusst an einen Rave:So apokalyptisch und düster der Song auch klingt, endet Björk mit den Worten: "Our union is stronger than us / Hope is a muscle".
Der Titel "atopos" leitet sich übrigens von dem griechischen Wort átopos ab, was so viel bedeutet wie absurd, fehl am Platz oder unpassend. "atopos" soll, genau wie das Album, inspiriert von der Pandemieerfahrung und Lockdown-Raves sein. Außerdem soll fossora davon handeln, auf der Erde zu landen und bildet damit einen Gegensatz zum Vorgängeralbum Utopia (2017), auf dem sich Björk dem Element Luft widmete:

Auf dem Album werden auch Björks Sohn und ihre Tochter zu hören sein. Außerdem hat Björk zwei Songs ihrer verstorbenen Mutter gewidmet und ein Gedicht von Látra-Björg, einer Poetin, Fischerin und Ausgestoßenen aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, verarbeitet.
